From Fear to Freedom: The Path to Listening to Your Inner Self and Thriving

Have you ever felt conflicted between the voices around you and the one within? Let me share my story with you.

I wasn’t always a grandmaster. I was a frightened girl, and I had plenty of opportunities to make all kinds of excuses for not rising above my environment. But I made the personal decision not to accept those limitations. I chose to remain true to myself.

It wasn’t easy, of course. I had to summon all the determination I could. I had to determine not to let anyone rob me of my dreams, clip my wings, or hold me down. I had to determine to rise up, like a phoenix rises from the ashes to be reborn.

As a young girl and later a young woman, it would have been nice to have the loving support of family and friends as I worked toward my goals. Instead, I was often laughed at, ostracized, and even beaten like a dog at times. What I discovered, though, is that even in the worst situations, I had a choice. Even if my choices were limited, I always had the power to choose my response.

In my book, Seven Steps to Inner Power, I share more about this journey and the formula for success that guided me. Remember, the most important voice to listen to is the one within you. Trust it, nurture it, and let it lead you to greatness.

  1. Spend Time in Reflection: Take regular moments of quiet to connect with your inner self. Meditation, journaling, or simply sitting in silence can help you hear your true voice.
  2. Trust Your Intuition: Your gut feelings are often your inner voice speaking to you. Learn to trust those instincts and act on them.
  3. Set Boundaries: Protect yourself from negative influences by setting clear boundaries. Limit time with people who drain your energy or criticize your dreams.
  4. Affirm Your Worth: Remind yourself daily of your value and your goals. Positive affirmations can reinforce your commitment to yourself.
  5. Surround Yourself with Supportive People: Seek out friends, mentors, and communities that uplift and encourage you. Their support can help you stay strong when faced with challenges.
  6. Stay Focused on Your Goals: Keep your eyes on your dreams and don’t let setbacks or criticism deter you. Every step forward is a step towards your true self.
  7. Be Resilient: Life will have its ups and downs. Embrace the challenges as opportunities to grow and rise stronger, like a phoenix from the ashes.
