Determination is a powerful force. It’s what drives us to keep pushing forward, even when things get tough. Without determination, it’s easy to become discouraged and give up on our goals. But with determination, we can overcome any obstacle and achieve our dreams.
Here’s the thing about determination: it works only when you put it to work. Let’s say you paid a tailor one thousand dollars in advance to produce evening clothes to wear to a special event. This event will never happen again, and the clothes are designed for this one evening. Will you go to pick up your new clothes even if it’s raining heavily? Yes. Will you go if you’re angry about getting a late start because the stew boiled over in your kitchen? Yes. Will you go if you find one of the streets on the way is blocked by road construction? Yes—you’ll take a detour. Will you continue even if the freeway traffic is totally stopped and you have to sit for two hours? Yes. What will you do when you arrive at the tailor’s shop right after he has hung up his “closed” sign? You’ll bang on the door until he lets you in.
When you’re looking for a new job or considering another major step in your life, do you have the same determination? Where does all this determination go after a few rejections?
Determination is born out of a hunger and passion in your life. You’ve got to be hungry to achieve your dreams and your goals.
So, How do we keep going when things get tough?
Here are a few tips to help you stay determined and on track:
1. Define your goals and why they are important to you. Having a clear sense of purpose can help you stay motivated and focused.
2. Break your goals down into smaller, achievable steps. This can help you feel a sense of progress and accomplishment as you work towards your bigger objectives.
3. Surround yourself with supportive people who believe in you and your goals. It’s much easier to stay determined when you have the support of others.
4. Find inspiration from others who have achieved what you are striving for. Reading about or speaking with others who have overcome similar challenges can be incredibly motivating.
5. Take care of yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally. It’s hard to stay determined if you are exhausted, stressed out, or not taking care of your overall well-being. Make sure to get enough rest, eat well, and engage in activities that nourish your soul.
6. Celebrate your small victories along the way. It’s important to recognize your progress and give yourself credit for the hard work you are putting in.
Determination is not always easy. It takes hard work, persistence, and resilience. But it is worth it. When we tap into our determination, we can accomplish things we never thought possible. So don’t give up, even when things get tough. Keep pushing forward and you will achieve your goals.
