Detachment is inner freedom

Here is an excerpt from my book, The Silent Master: Awakening the Power Within:

Detachment is inner freedom. It gives you the mobility you need to keep your thoughts free and clear; as a result, you free yourself from emotions that could cause you to take inappropriate action.

4. Focus on creative attitudes like harmony, gratitude, and praise to bring love and beauty into the creation of a new you and a new world.

I mentioned before how attitudes are like arrows that fly you toward your target goal – or away from your goal – depending on which attitudes you maintain. Positive attitudes are creative tools. Negative attitudes are destroyers. There’s a Parable of Scattering Seeds in the Bible that beautifully illustrates this:

A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places that did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown… (Matthew 13:3-8)

The seeds in this story stand for your goals and aspirations. When the seeds fell by the wayside and were eaten by birds, this can be compared to an attitude of disvaluing your goals, allowing other interests or situations to distract you and “eat up” your energy and commitment.
