Many of us have come to think of meditation as taking time out from the busyness of the day to sit quietly and calm our thoughts. There are many reasons to meditate in this way. You may simply want to relax and feel the pleasure of your mind expanding. You may want to visualize a desired outcome. You may want to acquire information outside your current conscious awareness. Meditation is certainly a way to clear, cleanse, open, and expand your thinking.
Keep Your Goals Front and Center
It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the day and forget to focus on the goals that are actually most important to you. To keep those goals foremost in your thoughts and feelings, they need to become a part of your very heart and soul. In order for those goals to take form, you need to feed them—to energize them. One way to do that is to review your goals every morning before you start your day.
Start the Day by Connecting
When you wake up, instead of feeling the pressure to jump out of bed and get going, plan a little extra time to consciously connect with your real self and your inner power before rushing into your day. If you have a backyard, you can go outside and feel yourself among the plants and trees and birds, feel the breeze “and experience the light of the rising sun. Or you can imagine those tranquil scenarios in whatever space you do have.
Fuel Goals During Meditation
When you keep your goals and values in mind “during meditation, you are, in effect, fueling them and ensuring that they won’t slip away from you.
Turn Clarity Into Daily Action
Once your goals are clear and focused in your mind, the next step, of course, is to spend your day in charge of your goals. Instead of going about your day waiting to see what will happen, make time to act on your goals. When you take charge of your day, you take charge of your life. You won’t wait for something unusual to happen in order to express patience and kindness toward a family member, for example. If your goal is to pursue a new career, instead of waiting for a job to open up in the company you want to work for, you will proactively rewrite your resume, learn any new skills you will need, practice for an interview, and contact the HR department of the company with a well-written and creative letter. If you are passionate about starting this new career, you won’t even entertain the notion of procrastinating. You will put your passion into action every day.
When you consistently fuel your intentions and act on them, you stop waiting for life to change—you start shaping it. Remember: meditation can be your daily power source. Give it a try!
