If you haven’t seen it yet, check out Dr. Tae Yun Kim’s video for the Women of Silicon Valley, Women in Technology (WinTec17) Conference!

While the conference, held April 19-20 in Santa Clara, CA is over now, (see other articles here on taeyunkim.wpengine.com about how awesome it the conference was!), Dr. Kim’s jacket still stands out as as unique and one of a kind as she is!

While she doesn’t normally wear green, or green mixed with blue, this TYK Fashions jacket of her own design was perfect for the setting Dr. Tae Yun Kim filmed in. The greens of the trees and gorgeous Oregon hillside were mirrored in the jackets plush emerald green and vibrant navy blue. Off-setting the tweed, the jacket’s trim is a fun and whimsical mix of turquoise, white, black, and red fringe and braid. So unique! So Dr. Kim! For the filming she paired this jacket with embellished jeans for an ultra cool, hip and hot look!

A picture of Dr. Kim wearing this jacket  was up on the screen when she opened the the Women of Silicon Valley, Women in Technology (WinTec17) conference April 19th, 2017 with her motivating, inspiring and energetic Keynote address.

The conference, created to inspire and connect women working in technology, was dedicated to developing and expanding the future for women in this sector.

The two-day event drew hundreds of top executives from major tech companies throughout Silicon Valley and beyond, including attendees from out of state. Google, Yelp, Netflix, Intel, ebay, Amazon, LinkedIn, Yahoo!, Dell, Uber, GoDaddy, and OpenTable represented just a few of multiple companies attending the conference.

In her  keynote address, Dr. Tae Yun Kim shared her personal story and her personal life motto, “He can do, she can do, why not me!” to encourage, challenge, and inspire all present to follow their dreams and to never, ever give up!

Throughout her address she also emphasized strength, power and the importance of being true to one’s self always —as she says, “Be an Original, don’t be a copy!”

Using stories from her life as examples, Dr. Kim shared how, being born in 1946 in South Korea, she grew up in the male dominated, Korean culture of the 1940’s and 50’s and was expected, because she was a girl, only to learn to cook, sew, marry, and have 12 sons.  As a young child Dr. Kim faced the Korean war starvation, and being abandoned in the war, too, because she was a girl, and viewed as just another mouth to feed.

But though her family and culture constantly tried to limit her, and she faced countless years of fighting prejudice against women in marital arts and in business, Dr. Kim never gave up. As a result, today she has achieved her dreams and goals! She is one of the world’s highest ranked female martial arts, the CEO of a Silicon Valley technology company, Lighthouse Worldwide Solutions, and is a mentor, an author and a keynote and motivational speaker.

Said Dr. Kim, “It is a fact, that if people choose to, they truly can rise above anything and everything. A great pleasure in life, for me, has been to encourage people that they can succeed. They can rise above their circumstances. They can achieve their dreams!”
