My Mentor, Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim teaches us about the Parable of the Buttons.
Have you experienced putting the button of your shirt on the wrong hole? Did you notice right away?
I have done this many times. I usually don’t even notice it until I get to the end. My mentor pointed out that once the first button is wrongly put then, the other buttons will also end up in the wrong holes. To correct it, we have to undo and go back to the beginning. There are many lessons in this parable that helps me to relate.
I remember in high school when I started to hang with the wrong crowd. At first, I couldn’t even recognize that I stepped in the wrong environment until I finally realized that I started making bad decisions from there. It just took only one wrong move to hang with the wrong crowd for my life to go downhill very fast. I had to make some tough decisions after realizing that I was not in the right environment. I had to end ties with this crowd completely. All though it seemed that I have to start again I know it was one of the best decisions I made.
My mentor also teaches us about the parable of the buttons that human mind leans on our own understanding. Just as we put on the buttons in the wrong hole, we are so convinced that we are buttoning it correctly. With this in mind, I realize that it is imperative to be humble in life and be open-minded.
Looking back, I realized that I had made a lot of wrong choices in life. I am thankful that with my Master, she guides, teaches and helps me to align myself to learn from a lot of mistakes in the past. I feel so blessed to be mentored by her.
HE CAN DO SHE CAN DO WHY NOT ME!
