There are so many natural disasters happening in our country right now! In the face of all this mayhem and suffering, it is also an opportunity for us to come together to support others.
There's a fire base camp close to where I live and these people have been living in tents for weeks. These wonderful women and men have put their lives on hold to combat the several fires that are raging in the NorthWest. What would we do without them? I can only imagine that there would be a large exodus of people running away from the fires that were about to consume homes. Take a moment to send a message, put up a sign, send a donation or even volunteer.
My heart goes out to those that are suffering from Hurricane Harvey - it really made me stop and appreciate the people around me and the fact that I still have a home to live in and a bed to lay my head down on.
Dr. Tae Yun Kim writes about Appreciation and ties it back to us first needing to be able to love ourselves before we can find appreciation in others. "Then before you know it, your love is growing to appreciate more and more of the world around you..." This is so true for me - when I'm walking around with a big storm cloud hanging over me, I'm focused on seeing everything that is wrong in my life. It's a pity party for one and it does me no good. When I feel good, even if things are chaos around me, I can find things to be appreciative about. It's all in my attitude and how I choose to conduct myself.
I really admire how Tae Yun Kim has overcome so many challenges in her life, and she treats each one as a learning lesson. So many times, when I've been in a complaining mode, I'll think about some challenge that Dr. Kim has gone through, and then I'll realize that my small problem is nothing compared to any of her challenges. It's just a matter of adjusting my attitude, and honestly, not being so selfish.
