Here is an excerpt from my book, Seven Steps to Inner Power:
The key word is “express,” which literally means to “press outward.” This person has a right to claim the idea of strength as belonging to her and press this idea outward into material form, into a body that expresses strength.
The opposite of this process is being “impressed,” which literally means to “press inward.” This is what evidence gained through the five senses does. Daily our senses are bombarded with all kinds of sensations: screeching sounds that jar us, unkind words that affect us, smiles that make us happy. Whether good or bad, these images and sensations from outside impress us with a feeling of hard reality, making us feel that we can’t change things. This can certainly depress us. But because all outside images were first created as thoughts, new thoughts can create new images. We can change things, no matter what the sensory information in our brains tell us. However, we are not likely to create new thoughts if we are easily impressed with images and concepts coming to us from outside ourselves and if we regard that information as the final word.
